Staff Assistant--Critical Threats Project

Seeking a full-time staff assistant to work in support of AEI’s Critical Threats Project, which tracks and analyzes issues related to national security policy. 

 

The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the daily administrative operations of the project.  This includes duties such as conference organization, scheduling, record keeping, and financial tracking.  The staff assistant will also serve as the project’s point of contact both within AEI and with outside marketing partners, website developers, vendors, and consultants.  Other regular tasks include marketing and disseminating works of the project, and occasional research assignments. 

 

The ideal candidate works well in a team and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills.  The ability to multi-task and work well under pressure is also required, as well as a demonstrated interest in defense policy.

Technical Support Analyst

Seeking a customer-focused technical support analyst to assist AEI's staff and IT team.

 

Primary responsibilities include resolving user technical problems in a timely manner, using the trouble ticket system to manage issue queue, using RIS to build and deploy system images on user PCs, and managing online inventory of software and hardware.

 

Required skills:

 

  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS, especially XP in a network domain

  • Strong knowledge of PC hardware

  • Working knowledge of standard PC office applications (MS Office, Adobe, etc.)

 Desired skills:

 

  • Familiarity with network technologies, DNS, etc.

  • Familiarity with Apple hardware and operating systems (Macs, OS X, etc.)

  • Familiarity with phone systems

Development Associate, Events and Outreach

Seeking a development associate to implement and manage a series of regional marketing and development events, focusing on building donor relationships and providing logistical support. 

 

Primary responsibilities of this position include coordination of event strategy with the development team, design and implementation of events of approximately fifty persons or less, donor and prospect correspondence, and constituent relationship management.

 

The ideal candidate has the ability to work independently and as part of a team, has creative energy and meticulous attention to detail, and can set appropriate timelines and multi-task.  The position requires excellent communication skills, as well as an interest in public policy and marketing the fundamentals of free enterprise. A bachelor’s degree is required, and database and event planning experience a plus. The position requires some travel.

Entry-level employment opportunities at AEI consist of research assistant positions in our three program areas: economic policy studies, foreign and defense policy studies, and social and political studies. In addition, staff vacancies may also occur in our development, seminars and conferences, human resources, public relations, and publications departments. These positions provide opportunities to work with some of America’s most renowned scholars, economists, legal scholars, political scientists, and foreign policy specialists doing research on current public policy issues. 

 

Positions require excellent organizational, research, writing, and computer skills, as well as the ability to multi-task. Responsibilities would include some researching, writing, editing, event planning, and administrative work. An interest in public policy is essential, and competitive candidates will generally have a minimum of a 3.6 GPA from a top ranking college or university.

Freelance Copyeditors and Proofreaders

Seeking freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers to assist the AEI Press, publishing arm of the American Enterprise Institute. The AEI Press publishes books and monographs on a wide range of public policy issues, including foreign policy, domestic policy, and economic studies. Strong command of Chicago style is essential. Some knowledge of specific subject areas may also be valuable. Previous professional book editing experience is required. Applicants need not reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
